1
What is hair painting?
The evolution of an old French coloring method called balayage where the color is painted directly to the hair without the use of foils. It allows us ultimate freedom to customize color, eliminate streaky lines and creates the softest regrowth possible. Colors seem to melt together. It mimics the natural hues you would see in a child’s hair. Definitely the most current and artistic approach to applying color in the world today. We are truly able to respect the maintenance schedule of each person whether it’s 4 weeks or 4 months.

What happens if I want to try another stylist within the salon? Sometimes it can be awkward.
We have an open chair policy. Many clients hop around and see different stylists. Sometimes it just works with their schedule or maybe they just have fun with it. Whatever the case, we just want you to come back. It’s totally about the client enjoying their visit.

How do I choose the right stylist for me when I’m a new client?
We have a range of talent and price. The best thing to do when scheduling is to let the front desk coordinator know what you’re looking for in a stylist and what your budget is so they can match you with the best choice. It’s always a good idea to look around while you’re there and see the kind of work the other stylists are doing. You may see someone who you just like their vibe. People match up according to different things. It could be personality, fashion sense or even just the ability to get them in and out quickly.

Why are products so important? What’s the big deal?
We are style experts and specialize in helping you look your best. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy looking their best. In order for us to fill the never-ending tall order of requests, like extra volume, shine, manageability, definition, color preserving, no frizz, holding power (the list goes on), we have to use professional products. On average, you wash, condition, blow dry, flat iron, curl or whatever 30-50 times before we see you again and that either supports or deteriorates that beautiful hair you just received in the salon. Your home regimen greatly dictates the performance and longevity of your style. Products give you the ability to change your look without getting a new cut or color. Everyone deserves a great shampoo, conditioner and 1 structure product to control the hair. Most people go at least 2 months before they need anything again so that’s really only a few times a year that you’ll need to buy something. Oribe is the exclusive line of choice because they are awesome! There is a wide range of possibilities to pick from and you can even create your own hair cocktails.

Is there really a difference in cheap and professional brand shampoos and conditioners?
ABSOLUTELY! Cheaper shampoos tend to be more aggressive on the hair removing too much of the natural oils from the strands leading to less manageability, a dryer texture and flyaways. Adversely, cheap conditioners leave too much behind on the hair masking the effects of the shampoo leaving the hair weighed down and less responsive to styling. A great professional shampoo will gently cleanse your locks leaving them full and moisturized. High-end conditioners will smooth and nourish your hair only as much as needed then rinse clean never leaving heavy residues behind.

What’s wrong with running into a "quickie" place for a trim?
I can’t tell you how many “trims” we repair or straighten out. We have a different mindset than the average salon stylist. You have to think about what you’re leaving on the head and not what you’re removing. It doesn't matter if you cut a ¼ inch or 12 inches. Remember, you are paying for what is left on your head not what is swept up. Hair is like a material. You wouldn't buy a dress too long or too wide. This is the only outfit you wear every day for roughly 6 weeks, so when you look in the mirror, you’d better love it. It’s worth it to invest in a great cut!

What sets Christopher Ashley Salon apart from all the other salons?
A genuine passion for our craft. The French technique we use is a more free-form way of cutting and coloring. We always work with the natural movement of the hair and contours of the head shape. This enables us to tailor each style to suit the individual. We connect with our guests on all levels and most importantly remember that we are here to serve them. The guests are the stars not the stylists. Last but not least, we have an “open chair” policy. We encourage our guests to try other stylists within the salon to find the one they match up with the best. Many clients make appointments with whoever is available which makes it more convenient for them. We share everything about our work with each other which proves to make us better as a team. We are all about teamwork.

Is there a difference in blow dryers and brushes?
Yes. Just because 2 dryers say 1800 watts doesn't mean they have the same power. It’s like a Porsche vs. a Volkswagen. Both can go 100 mph, however, the Porsche can do it much easier and efficiently. You pay for the quality of the motor. A strong dryer can cut your styling time in half. It will create much more body and volume for lifeless hair or smooth down curly, frizzy or unruly hair quicker. Brushes can help or hinder the styling process. Ceramic barrels conduct the heat which helps bend and curl the hair. You can take slightly larger sections and pull through it without difficulty because the ceramic slides along the strands more easily. Also, they can smooth and straighten hair provided you don’t roll the brush too much. Natural bristle brushes (boar hair) are created to smooth and straighten hair and they really increase the shine. They are great for the hair as well as the scalp. It is easier to get the tension you need to make curly hair straight because natural bristles grab better. The only downfall is you can potentially get them tangled if you take too big of a section or are in a hurry. Whichever brush you choose, always direct the airflow down the hair shaft towards the ends as this will eliminate frizz and static. After your styling session, finish with a cool blast from your dryer running your hands throughout to loosen up the look. A great blow-dry should look airy and tousled, not stuck too perfectly in place like a helmet.

Why does it matter where I buy my hair care products?
Your stylist is your guide to the most beneficial products for your hair type. We are familiar with the choices we offer and believe in them whole-heartedly. If you choose to purchase outside your salon, the stylist may not be familiar with your choice and cannot be as effective with offering solutions to a problem. Products help to strengthen the relationship and knowledge of your hair between you and your stylist. When you purchase Oribe products from us, you help support the salon’s culture and your stylist’s education. You help to preserve the craft of hairdressing as a whole. Your products are guaranteed to be high-performing. If you’re not satisfied, we will gladly trade to find something more suitable or refund your money. We stand behind our service to you 100%.
